E-waste Recycling Efforts Earn Community Engagement Award

Integrated Building Systems received the 2021 Community Engagement award from the Conway Center for Family Business for making a major contribution to the Central Ohio community through our Earth Day e-waste recycling efforts!

“What an honor! Our whole team is excited to be recognized,” said Chip Chapman, President of Integrated Building Systems.

“We have a fabulous team that works hard to plan and carry out our recycling drive. Everyone enjoys the camaraderie and teamwork that comes from working side-by-side, year after year, in sun, rain, and even snow sometimes to pull off this community event,” Chip said. “We all feel an immense sense of pride in accomplishing an important public service, and everyone is excited to pitch in, year after year.”

The Community Engagement award was presented November 10, 2021, at the Conway Center’s 23rd Annual Family Business Awards & Expo.

Earth Day recycling results

Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22, promotes support for environmental protection. Since 2013, Integrated Building Systems has joined this global movement by hosting an annual electronics recycling drive to give our community an environmentally responsible way to dispose of old equipment and keep it from polluting landfills.

Every year the Integrated Building Systems team unloads every car that drives up for curbside drop-off. In this 2020 photo, the team pauses for a quick smile, having nearly filled a 24-foot truck.

Since the first recycling drive in 2013, Integrated Building Systems has collected over 100,000 pounds of e-waste.

And since collecting paper for shredding in 2017, the event has collected over 19,000 pounds of paper, saving 236 trees and 97,000 gallons of water.

central ohio honorees

This year marked the 23rd annual celebration of Central Ohio family businesses, with honors given to recipients in categories consistent with the success and longevity of a family business: leadership, planning, communication, support and community service.

We all feel an immense sense of pride in accomplishing an important public service.
— Chip Chapman, President

Noting a uniquely competitive field of nominees in the Community Engagement category this year, the Conway Center’s panel of judges decided to give two awards — one to Integrated Building Systems and one to Marker, Inc., for its work to raise awareness about homelessness.

More than 200 companies have been honored during the past 22 years and represent many of Central Ohio’s finest family-owned businesses.
