IBS at 25: Core values drive success

Integrated Building Systems celebrated its 25th anniversary this year—an especially unique accomplishment in the ever-evolving field of technology.

In June 1993, as “Jurassic Park” roared onto the big screen, the father-son team of Al and Chip Chapman founded the company as ADC Information Technologies, Inc., with two desks, two phones, a handful of clients, and a focus on low-voltage cabling infrastructure. The Chapman’s friend and former colleague Bill Helland shared their vision for the new firm, and he joined the leadership team as a partner that summer, bringing a wealth of experience in project management.


Since its inception 25 years ago, Integrated Building Systems has added expertise in data networks, security, wireless, phone/paging, and audio-visual systems to its core services. The firm now offers a one-stop resource for the technology solutions that businesses need when they’re building, updating, or moving office space.

“Our team works hard every day to fulfill our core purpose—to help people communicate better by making buildings smarter,” said IBS President Chip Chapman. “I’m incredibly proud of our technology expertise and the positive impact we’ve had in Central Ohio for 25 years. But my favorite thing is seeing how our team embodies our core values every day. Our team succeeds because of our Can-do-IT attitude, Desire to own IT, and Pride in doing IT right.”


When businesses are planning to change their office space, they often need an advocate to guide them through critical choices. This focus on planning and partnership is at the core of what makes the firm unique in its industry.

“Technology changes constantly, which means our customers rely on us for expert planning and future-proof solutions,” said IBS Vice President Bill Helland. “Technology is now a major utility, but planning for it often slips through the cracks during the construction process. When we’re involved early on a project, we can help our customers avoid playing catch up and fixing problems that could easily have been avoided.”

The firm has helped customers from all industries with technology solutions ranging from basic updates to complex projects.

We then look at best practices and ideas from all the industries we work with and adapt and customize those strategies for each customer,” Chip explained.
